"More than Moonshine" is more than a cookbook. It evokes a rural way of life in the mid-twentieth century that centered on kitchens; warmth from wood-burning stoves; and family gathered around tables to eat, talk, and enjoy one another’s company.
The women in author Sidney Saylor Farr's family rarely had cash to spend, so they depended on free natural products from their gardens and hillsides. Drawing on her family's deep roots in eastern Kentucky, she shares instructions for making moonshine whiskey; fixing baked groundhog with sweet potatoes; and making turnip kraut, cracklin’ bread, egg pie, apple stackcake, and other traditional dishes.
